Day 4: Watson Lake to Stewart & Hyder "The Cassiar"

Today we started down the Cassiar highway. As we start down the highway at mile zero we are welcomed to British Columbia. the Cassiar is a good tar and chips road that is not quite as wide as the Alcan and with less shoulder. Still a good county road with intermittent pavement breaks and little or no shoulders. Within the first 20 miles we saw where a fire had been the year before. we first noticed that the fire had been so hot the ground was sterilized and no plants were coming back yet. Patsy pointed out that it also made some interesting patterns with the trees that had fallen and the shadows cast. At a rest stop down the road we saw a motor home with a 59 Metropolitan in tow. He ask us in for coffee but we had to move on so we got to Stewart at a reasonable time. The Glacier pictures are from the drive into Steward BC and Hyder Alaska. Twin cities that straddle the Canadian Alaska border. We passed through customs when we re-entered Canada. Before we turned onto the road to Steward a black bear came over a barricade and jumped in front of our car. I still don't know how we missed hitting it. God was watching over us.
